Badr and the Martyrs of Badr
The valley and cemetery where the Battle of Badr, the first major battle in Islamic history, took place.
Badr is a valley on the old caravan route between Medina and Mecca, about 150 kilometres south-west of Medina. The Battle of Badr, fought here in the month of Ramadan in the second year after the Hijrah, is known as the first great victory of the Muslims.
The cemetery where the fourteen Companions martyred in the battle are buried is the most visited spot in the area. The large sand hill nearby is associated with the help of the angels mentioned in the Quran and is known as Jabal al-Malaika, the Mount of Angels.
Our group visits Badr on the way from Medina to Mecca, where our guide recounts the course of the battle and its lessons on the spot.
This visit is included in our Umrah programmes.
